A professionally installed exhibition of art by high school students with diverse abilities and disabilities is being featured by a gallery in New Westminster for the public to enjoy.
The second annual Building a Better Tomorrow Through Art exhibit runs from May 12-31. Put on in partnership by the Burnaby and New Westminster school districts, the exhibit features the artwork of youth from Burnaby, New Westminster, and Vancouver.
The idea for the exhibition came from Burnaby North Secondary teacher Judy Chiao, who wanted to build a platform for students with diverse abilities and disabilities that supports visibility within the community and allows the public to appreciate the students’ talents. Chiao and Sarah Lynes, who teaches at New Westminster Secondary, have worked together to organize and share with multiple schools the opportunity to participate in this cross-district showcase of mixed-media works.
Artwork by students from the following schools will be on display:
- Burnaby North Secondary
- Cariboo Hill Secondary
- Moscrop Secondary
- New Westminster Secondary, and
- Vancouver’s Kitsilano & Magee Secondary schools.
Hosted by the City of New Westminster’s Art Services department, the free exhibition runs from May 12 – 31 on the 4thÌýfloor of Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia Street, New Westminster.
