The entire school community at Taylor Park ElementaryÌýis involved in a new project under the guidance of Indigenous artistÌýSimon James,Ìýwhose ancestral name isÌýWinadzi.ÌýHe is from theÌýKwakwaka’wakwÌýNation.ÌýJames is also working withÌýSquamish Nation Elder Sheryl RiversÌýto honour local teachings and protocol.
Beginning in January, all students from Kindergarten to Grade 7, along with staff, are getting the chance to carve and listen to James’ teachings and storytelling.
James created the design after several months of connecting with students, staff and families, who shared their values and stories with him.
